Setting up Taxjar

Integrating with TaxJar for more comprehensive tax calculation and collection

What are the advantages of using Taxjar vs. built-in tax calculator?

Taxjar is considered a gold standard in the industry when it comes to tax calculations, reporting and reconciliation for eCommerce businesses. Although our built-in tax calculator will make it possible for you to collect taxes for the customers/subscribers within your state/country and will make it possible for you to export taxes collected for a given period so you can file a tax report, Taxjar will make it possible for you to streamline this. 

Some of the things you'll be able to do with Taxjar are: 

  • one-click to comprehensive tax report
  • collect taxes from customers from all countries/states that you have a significant presence (or a sales tax nexus) in (and not only from the state your business is registered in as it is the case with our built-in tool)
  • possibility of differentiating and applying different taxes for different types of products (example would be food vs. non-food for certain states)
  • and many other things...

How to setup the Taxjar integration?

It's dead simple!

From your Subbly admin, make sure to go to the Integrations page, and click on Install and Configure button underneath the Taxjar app.

On the following screen, you will need to provide your API token (taken from your Taxjar admin) and input it in the correct field. After you've done that, make sure to hit the Enable switch and Save. 

Make sure that you have your nexus properly configured in Taxjar account. If you don't have it configured there, you can opt to enable the Use FROM address in Subbly switch here. What this'll do is it will take your business address you have configured inside your Subbly admin here and use that one for tax calculations (it will disregard your complete sales tax nexus if you have a significant presence in the other US states as well and you need to collect taxes from the customers from other states as well)

Finally, please make sure to enable the tax calculator tool from here so the taxes get actually added to the checkout.
