Setting up Intercom integration

If you're looking to improve your customer support and provide exceptional service, look no further then the Intercom app.

Setting up Intercom on App Store

First of all, you will need to create an account with Intercom and pick a plan most suited to your store.

You can check Intercom's pricing here.

After creating an account, you'll be able to access admin in order to see your workspace_ID (sometimes called the app_ID) which is needed to connect the integration.

The easiest way to find your workspace ID is to check the URL of any page you have open in Intercom.

It's the code that comes after apps/ in the URL.

So for this example workspace, if we check the URL we can see that the workspace ID is e8y21262.

Your workspace ID is also available under Settings > Installation > Web

After getting the code, all you need to do is paste it inside your app store, dedicated to the Intercom app and the widget will be activated on your website.

If you're looking to add extra security to your intercom connection, you'll be able to add the "Identity verification secret".

"Identity verification secret" helps to make sure that conversations between you and your users are kept private and that one user can't impersonate another.

You can set up, turn on, or off the setting at any time in the Intercom web settings.

Once you’ve set up identity verification in your code, you can check the installation and enforce it in your Intercom settings.

When you install Intercom on your site, the app automatically tracks and stores certain standard data fields on users. The default ones that are always being passed are listed below:

  1. Name (a person’s full name).
  2. Email (user’s or lead’s email address).

If you wish to track any more data over Intercom, this is possible by configuring the custom bot with additional questions, so the answers are provided by the user when first initiating communication.

How does the app work?

After inputting all the necessary info in the setup, your customers will be presented with a widget on the checkout/customer portal pages where they can initiate direct communication.

If you wish to add it to the website pages as well (if you have a website built on Subbly) you will need to include the code in the Site Settings > Code Injection.

You can read more on how to add different javascript and code to your site's pages here.

The widget will be presented to users on your website as shown below:
