Can I set my subscriptions to auto-cancel themselves?

This one is a recurring question so we're about to explain what's the best way to automate this on Subbly.


Setup

First of all, let's clarify that there isn't a default setting when creating your subscription product that will allow you to set the subscription to automatically cancel once the cycle/period ends. Subscriptions will always continue to bill customers on the renewal date.

That said, what you can do is build an Automation which will make it possible to set up a process that cancels a subscription after X order has been created... sweet!

For example, let's say you want to offer a 3 months subscription product that bill & ships monthly but shouldn't renew in the fourth month. With an automation you can define that whenever a new subscription is created for this product in particular, it will automatically cancel after the third order is generated, thus you will successfully stop billing your customers after the desired period (see here our Recipe #8 for further clarification on how it works):
