How to embed Subbly to Shopify

Although Subbly is not featured as a subscription plugin for Shopify, you can still use our embed function to feature Subbly's modal checkouts on your Shopify page.

Before we proceed with the actual tutorial on how you can do this, please acknowledge the following.

If you're embedding Subbly onto Shopify, you will have to manage your subscriptions through your Subbly admin, and not through Shopify CMS. That said, you won't be able to use any inventory tracking features or any other eCommerce features on Shopify whatsoever. For a more streamlined solution, we definitely suggest building your store on Subbly (using our drag-and-drop builder). We can even offer help with replicating your current Shopify store front on Subbly if you don't want to move away from your current site's looks. Feel free to contact support about this.

Now that we are aware of this, let's move forward with how you can actually use Subbly with Shopify.

Embedding Subbly checkout onto Shopify Page

One way of doing this is to create a separate page for your subscription product using the regular Pages facility on Shopify.

Going forward, you can feel free to populate a new page with the necessary data (titles, images, descriptions for the product in question).

Now it's time to create your embed button on Subbly using our Embed Widget. What you need to do is to go to the Products section on your Subbly admin, choose the product you'd want to be embedded on your Shopify page, and customize the button which will appear on your Shopify page (you can change the caption, the styling of the button, as well as background and font color for the button).

Finally, code that you'll need to copy is the one in the Your Embed Widget Code field as in the picture below:

You can find a separate article explaining how to use the embed widget here.

Now, go to your Shopify page and choose to edit the HTML code of the page (as that's the only way of adding custom scripts to it). You can simply paste the code provided by Subbly there in order for the embed button to appear on your page.

Done. You now have a fully operational embed button on your Shopify page.

Embedding Subbly checkout onto the Shopify product page

Due to limited flexibility in the terms of creating a layout for the page using Shopify's Pages functionality, there is a solution to embed Subbly's modal checkout onto Shopify's Product Page (and not a regular blank page).

First of all, you'll need to create a product on your Shopify admin.

After you do this, Shopify will automatically generate a page for your newly created product with default call-to-action buttons.

From here on, make sure to repeat the process of extracting the code from Subbly as explained in the previous section you can see above.

When you get the code, you will need to opt to edit the product in question on Shopify and then opt to add the code to the product description. You then have to paste the code there in order to have a fully operational Subbly button.

The final step would be reaching out to Shopify's customer support and asking them to disable Shopify's default CTA button included on the page of that particular product.
